Does Anyone Know Who Wrote This?

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet
Alternately vicious and glum ...
Along came a spider
That sat down beside her
And said, "You remind me of Mum."

It's a delightful parody that I read years ago, and for the life of me I can't track it down again, or find the author's name.

If you've come across it yourself and can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful :)

News

The Fifth Line: Limericks After Lear Book One, is now complete and the ebook is available for pre-order. Here's a Universal Book Link.

The Fifth Line is a new take on every verse in A Book of Nonsense, by Edward Lear. Along with the new limericks, it contains all of Lear's originals - 224 limericks altogether.

The paperback will be available in bookshops and online from 2 November 2020, and direct from my website, www.kidsbooke.com.

The paperback is available now on Amazon, but only by accident. I'm trying to push it back for the 2 November launch.

And Sascha Martin's Superball is still on the way :)

Inactivities

Though I've finished the limericks how-to,
I'm uncertain what I should go now to;
So please hit Reply
And advise me what I
Should be writing about, or about who ...

In the meantime, two colouring pages -
Print together or print them in stages;
Getting at them is quick,
Just a click on each pic,
And I hope they will last you for ages.

Fun Fact

Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island and Kidnapped, wrote A Child's Garden of Verses and several more volumes of poetry. He not only turned his pen to the limerick, but wrote one After Lear:

There was an old man of the Cape,
Who made himself garments of crepe.
When they asked: "Do they tear?"
He replied: "Here and there,
But they're perfectly splendid for shape."
